Fabric as a Service

Data Center Integrated Network Fabric

TeleFlex believes today’s data center must go beyond basic power & cooling by providing the networking core to support customer virtualization and cloud adoption. That is why TeleFlex is the only data center providing carrier-grade, fully-managed, switching & routing Fabric as a Service (FaaS) native in all cabinets. Powered by our Juniper MetaFabric core, TeleFlex data center cabinets include active switch panels delivering line-rate speeds at 1Gbps, 10Gbps, and 40Gbps. FaaS may be used in a range of applications including high performance redundant traditional switching, iSCSI connectivity, Virtualization (HyperV/VMWare/VSAN) backplane, and orchestrated cloud & Software Defined Networking (SDN) switching.

VMWare DiagramTeleFlex has implemented the premiere reference architecture of Juniper’s Data Center MetaFabric. As a purpose-built network core, TeleFlex has deployed a 100% MetaFabric network with no legacy components. TeleFlex’s fabric consists of fully redundant Juniper MX routers providing 80Gbps line-rate throughput, each, to the Internet via multiple carriers. Each MX connects to our Juniper QFX Virtual Chassis Fabric (VCF) switching core consisting of fully meshed Spine and Leaf nodes providing 48 ports of 40Gbps connectivity to the data center access layer. The data center access layer (Access POD) consists of fully meshed Spine and Leaf nodes providing cabinet ports in mixed configurations from 1Gbps to 40Gbps. Each data center aisle is served by a primary Access POD cross-connected to the neighboring data center aisle.

FaaS Use Cases

Businesses face an overwhelming wealth of emerging IT solutions and platforms such as server & desktop virtualization, cloud (private, public, or hybrid), OpenStack, VMWare, and SDN & NFV. Navigating these technologies presents unique challenges and risks on top of ensuring secure. reliable, and resilient delivery of business-critical applications. Proper implementation of these technologies requires a significant capital investment in networking infrastructure in addition to new specialized engineering and support resources. Often the network infrastructure cost exceeds the budget of a “traditional” server refresh. Increased capital costs can lead businesses to either cut corners in infrastructure, thereby increasing risk, or forego implementing these potentially strategically valuable technologies. Even with adequate funding for a robust infrastructure, companies are locked in to a single technology strategy early in the development process.

TeleFlex data centers offer customers the Freedom to Innovate, with our integrated networking fabric, orchestration, and services.

  • Eliminate capital costs and reduce operating expenses
  • Avoid vendor & technology lock-in
  • Utilize TeleFlex provided hosts and storage assets for primary hosting or to augment your own equipment
  • Access TeleFlex Sandboxes for test, lab, and validation
  • Use a mix of technologies to suit your needs without increasing costs
  • Leverage TeleFlex engineering and partner resources to design, certify, and support your solution
  • Carrier-grade switching & routing fabric (up to 40Gbps per interface) provided as a per-port service
  • SDN & NFV orchestration

TeleFlex’s integrated FaaS provides unparalleled reliability and resiliency for your in-cabinet server data switch needs. The per-port pricing model allows customers to upgrade or replace their legacy switches with a redundant, self-healing, fabric switching solution featuring line-rate throughput, for a fraction of the cost of purchasing and maintaining similar hardware chassis.

Gaining reliable, isolated, iSCSI connectivity to your SAN and/or TeleFlex’s SAN Service doesn’t require purchasing new switch hardware or adding performance and management risk to your network. Simply activate the provisioning-ready ports on your cabinet patch panel and connect your equipment. TeleFlex Junos Orchestration automatically creates a carrier-grade, isolated, switch domain delivering up to full line rate speeds.

The allure of efficiency, cost reduction, and consolidation driving customers to adopt server virtualization in their IT Strategy requires a new level of network to ensure equal or better performance to legacy bare-metal designs. The average virtualization cluster would require a customer to invest an equal amount of capital in network hardware as they invest in virtualization hosts. In addition, the complexity of engineering and managing this next-generation fabric requires resources with specialized skillets in SDN & NFV. Many companies that correctly identify the network needs, find it difficult to justify the capital cost of the virtualization business case. For many other companies the network requirements are overlooked, leading to costly performance impacts and complicated troubleshooting.

Whether you are just investigating cloud & SDN or you are ready for a full scale deployment, TeleFlex provides the proven platform for your needs. Per-port provisioning and available integration with Enterprise orchestration tools, enables customers to deploy a wide range of cloud & SDN environments on a carrier-grade network while minimizing excessive capital costs.
